A Season of Women’s Empowerment

At House of Ruth, empowerment isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Empowerment is a safe place to sleep after months of fear. Empowerment is the first conversation that sparks hope. Empowerment is a community that shows up again and again in ways both big and small.

This Women’s History Month, we saw empowerment take many forms—each one reminding us that when a community comes together for women, extraordinary things happen.

  • At Smithbucklin and Zuckerman Spaeder, it looked like a happy hour with a deeper purpose, where staff learned about House of Ruth’s programs and impact and how they can support our work.
  • At Relume, a cozy craft shop in our neighborhood, it looked like laughter and connection at a packed bingo night and silent auction, a fundraiser to support our services.
  • At Audi Field with DC United, it looked like game-day energy paired with impact, as we stood alongside other women-led nonprofits to meet fans and share stories on Women’s Empowerment Night.
  • At Real Housewives of Potomac star Ashley Darby’s sold-out musical benefit showcase, it looked like music filling the room with song selections by Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, and Roberta Flack.

Special shout out to our incredible community of champions that hosted in-kind drive throughout Women’s History Month: Capital One, Zuckerman Spaeder, Capital Electric Supply, No More @AU and Brown Advisory.

Celebrate the women in our lives and communities throughout the year! Hosting an in-kind donation drive for our women and families helps them focus on their long-term goals like housing and wellness. Check out our wish lists to get started.

Always stay up-to-date.
