Since 1990, Kidspace Child and Family Development Center has provided no-cost childcare, child development support, and family support programs for children and parents in Washington, D.C. Through trauma-informed care and family-centered services, Kidspace helps children and caregivers build strong foundations for long-term growth and well-being.

Located on Pennsylvania Avenue in Ward 7, Kidspace is a licensed childcare center accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and rated “High Quality” by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education. As a trusted child and family development center, Kidspace provides safe, supportive, and relationship-based care for families across the community.

Kidspace serves children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. D.C. residents who qualify for the D.C. Child Care Subsidy or Head Start programs are eligible to enroll. Families do not need to participate in House of Ruth’s housing programs to access childcare services and support.

Open year-round, Kidspace includes 10 classrooms serving up to 84 children, creating a safe and enriching environment where children and families can thrive. Built on high-quality childcare and caregiver support programs, Kidspace helps both children and parents reach their full potential.

Kidspace services include:

• On-site kitchen providing nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snacks
• Creative Curriculum for infants, toddlers, preschool, Pre-K, and two-year-olds
• Raising a Reader literacy program
• Two outdoor playgrounds and indoor play space
• On-site speech, occupational, and music therapies for children
• On-site mental health therapy for children and parents through a partnership with MedStar Georgetown University Hospital
• Child development support and family-centered care programs
• Caregiver support programs and trauma-informed services

Since 1998, the Domestic Violence Support Center (DVSC) has provided free and unlimited domestic violence counseling services with no insurance requirements, making it the only outpatient mental health provider of its kind in the region.

Located in downtown Washington, D.C., DVSC offers free, confidential in-person and virtual counseling for individuals ages 15 and older who have experienced domestic violence, abuse, or relationship trauma. Services are delivered by licensed mental health professionals trained in trauma-informed care and survivor support.

Through one-on-one counseling, group sessions, and community outreach, DVSC provides mental health support, domestic violence education, and victim support services that help survivors heal, rebuild stability, and access long-term support. DVSC also offers trauma-informed care training for partner organizations and staff across House of Ruth’s housing programs.
