Global Conversations, Local Impact: Welcoming the French Consul General to Kidspace

When the team from the Consul General of France contacted House of Ruth, they were in search of a local organization equipped to help women experiencing domestic violence. That initial contact led to a conversation with our leaders and a deeper understanding of the individualized, service enriched services offered at House of Ruth. As we say, House of Ruth is so much more than housing.

Consul General of France Caroline Monvoision as well as colleagues from both the Consul and Embassy of France sat down with House of Ruth senior leaders and program managers. Our meaningful conversation focused on the intersecting realities of domestic violence and houselessness. We explored what it means to show up for survivors, not just in moments of crisis, but throughout the long journey to rebuild a life.

At House of Ruth, that means meeting women, children, and families where they are and providing care that addresses the full picture: housing, case management, mental health, early childhood development, and everything in between.

Following the conversation, we toured Kidspace, our nationally accredited child and family development center,We explored the unique services and partnerships  that make it an essential place for children and parents to thrive. One highlight was our onsite therapy rooms, where families engage in trauma-informed, multi-generational therapy through our partnership with MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

We’re deeply grateful to the Consul General of France and her team for taking the time to listen, learn, and witness the heart of our work. Their visit joins a growing global dialogue – alongside delegations from Turkey, Germany, Great Britain, and beyond – about how we can care for survivors in ways that are truly transformative.
