House of Ruth had the privilege of hosting a distinguished Turkish delegation of doctors and psychologists as part of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. This visit was a remarkable opportunity for cross-cultural exchange and professional collaboration, bringing together experts dedicated to addressing gender-based violence and supporting vulnerable populations.
The morning began with a dynamic session where House of Ruth senior leaders and program managers engaged in a robust conversation with our Turkish guests. The dialogue focused on sharing invaluable knowledge and strategies for planning and responding to gender-based violence in disaster scenarios. These discussions were deeply enriching, providing fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that will undoubtedly enhance our work.
Following the insightful conversation, the delegation toured Kidspace, our nationally accredited child and family development center. This tour showcased the comprehensive services we offer and the nurturing environment we create for children and families. A significant highlight was our therapy observation rooms, where families benefit from multi-generational therapy through our partnership with MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. These rooms are designed to facilitate healing and growth, providing a safe space for families to receive the support they need.

One of the most memorable moments of the morning was when no interpretation was needed as these clinical experts communicated effortlessly, speaking the shared language of their profession. It was a powerful reminder of the universal commitment to helping those affected by trauma and violence– transcending cultural and linguistic barriers.
We are immensely grateful to our partners at the U.S. Department of State and American Councils for International Education for facilitating this meaningful visit. Their efforts in bringing us together highlight the importance of global collaboration in addressing complex issues like gender-based violence.
At House of Ruth, we are always eager to learn from our peers around the world and to share our nearly 50 years of experience serving women and children in Washington, D.C.
Thank you to everyone who made this visit possible. Together, we are stronger and more equipped to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
