At House of Ruth, we believe that every individual deserves to live in a space that feels safe, nurturing, and dignified—both inside and out. The physical environment plays an important role in the healing process, especially for survivors of trauma, abuse, and houselessness. At the end of June, we took another step toward that vision.
We were honored to welcome volunteers from the Women in Healthcare – DC Chapter for a landscaping project at one of our housing communities. These volunteers generously gave their time on a Saturday to refresh and beautify the outdoor space, helping to create a more welcoming and calming environment for the families who live there.

Armed with shovels, plants, and a spirit of service, the group worked diligently to transform the grounds—digging, planting, and arranging vibrant greenery and flowers throughout the shared outdoor area. The result? A space that signals care and community to the women and children who call this place home.
A very special thank you to Gozde Yildirim for her leadership and rallying volunteers. We’re so grateful for her energy and coordination!
House of Ruth has more housing communities that could use this kind of TLC. Want to help with a future landscaping project? We’d love to have you.
