Diana* first came to House of Ruth through our Three Sisters – New Pathways program. This program provides permanent supportive housing to women who are coping with substance use disorder or another mental health challenge. There, Diana found a safe, stable environment. She also received caring, around-the-clock services from 24-hour staff, including group therapy, case management, and life-skills training.
From the beginning, Diana had a goal for herself: to eventually graduate from House of Ruth and become a homeowner.
Diana’s case manager at House of Ruth connected her with Lydia’s House, one of our partners, which helps D.C. residents achieve their dreams of first-time homeownership. Diana learned about financial literacy, credit and debt management, and the home-buying process. She even worked with her case manager to establish a budget and savings plan.
After making steady progress with House of Ruth, Diana transitioned to our Rising Place program. There, she was able to move into a private apartment – with leasing assistance provided by House of Ruth. Through Rising Place, women like Diana receive support to prepare for more independent living.
While at Rising Place, Diana worked with a housing specialist and her case manager to continue pursuing her dream of homeownership. She even learned that she qualified for the District’s Home Purchase Assistance Program! Through this program, she received financial assistance towards her down payment. Her savings plan worked…
Earlier this year, Diana became a first-time homebuyer. She is now the proud owner of a brand-new condo and living her dream of a stable, independent life in the D.C. community.
