In Need of Housing?

Are you a resident of Washington, DC, a survivor of domestic violence, and seeking individual or familial services? Please click the following prompts to learn more about the different housing options we have at House of Ruth.

Single Services

Are you a single, adult female with no accompanying children? Do you meet the minimal qualifications:

  • A DC resident and able to verify DC residency (a current DC ID)
  • Experiencing homelessness
  • 18 years and older
  • Able to meet personal care needs independently

 

Family Services

Minimum qualifications:

  • A DC resident and able to verify DC residency (a current DC ID)
  • Experiencing homelessness
  • A survivor of domestic violence
  • Houselessness must be connected to domestic violence
  • No children over 18 years old
  • The child(ren) shall reside with the mother or legal guardian at least 90% of the time, and the mother or legal guardian shall have primary physical custody

Ready to Begin Therapy?

If you are a survivor of domestic violence and want to explore counseling, please call our Domestic Violence Support Center at 202-667-7001 ext. 515 to set up an appointment with one of our counselors. Counseling services are free of charge and located in downtown Washington, DC, near several Metro and bus routes. Address will be provided after an appointment is made.

In Need of a Child Development Program?

Kidspace is the name of our child and family development center and is available to parents who are unhoused or residing in a transitional living program. To learn more about their services and application process please contact Kidspace at 202-667-7001, ext. 223 or intake@houseofruth.org.

Washington, DC

If you are currently experiencing abuse in a relationship or in the home and need to separate from your abuser for safety reasons, please contact the DC Victim Service Hotline at 1-844-443-5732.

If you live in Washington, DC, and have legal questions or are interested in filing a Civil Protection Order (CPO) for abuse that has occurred in Washington, DC, please refer to the DC Volunteer Lawyers Project.

To schedule an appointment, call 202-667-7001 ext. 515. Please leave a message including the best times to reach you by phone so that a counselor can contact you to complete a telephone screening.

Maryland

If you are a Maryland resident experiencing domestic violence, the hotline for House of Ruth Maryland (an unaffiliated nonprofit organization) is 410-889-7884. You can also visit House of Ruth Maryland for additional resources.

Virginia

If you are a Virginia resident experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, contact the Virginia Statewide Hotline (formerly The Virginia Family Violence & Sexual Assault Hotline) at 1-800-838-8238 for information, support, and referral to local sexual assault crisis centers or domestic violence programs.

Individuals not located in the DMV area should contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline to be connected to resources local to their current residence.
