Gifts for Families

Every holiday season, the House of Ruth community rallies to ensure that every program participant we serve receives a gift. We call our program, Gifts for Families. Spreading the joy of giving and receiving, you will ensure that every child has at least two presents, and that every adult has the ability to purchase something just for them. 

Gifts for Families is a program for all ages to make a difference. Perfect for a family or friend activity; or for a corporate give-back initiative.

Ways You Can Participate

Gift Toys for Kids

Select and purchase toys for kids from our registry with Target. Each item was specifically selected based on the ages of children in our programs.
Gift Cards for Adults

Selecting the right gift for an adult can be challenging–they know what they want or need. That’s why we ask for donations of gift cards for the women and men we serve. Please consider VISA, Mastercard or Amazon gift cards in the amount of $50-100.

Make a Donation

Schedule a Donation Drop-Off

Schedule

We request that all in-kind donations (toys and gift cards) for Gifts for Families be dropped off by Monday, December 8. If all time slots are booked, please schedule a drop-off during the first week of December.

We unfortunately cannot accept unscheduled drop-offs and the following items:

  • Clothing
  • Opened, gently used or used items, including clothing
  • Mini-sized/travel sized or single use toiletries
  • Food or drink items (unless specified in a wish list)
  • Used furniture or mattresses
  • Religious publications or materials

Other organizations may accept these items, including: Martha’s Table, N Street Village, A Wider Circle, DC Coalition for the Homeless, So Others May Eat, Vietnam Veterans of America, or the DC Mutual Aid Network.

We kindly ask that donors refrain from donating any items that could be considered weapons, including toy guns or any form of weaponry.

To ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all program participants, we also ask that no religious items or publications be included in your donations.

Thank you for helping us maintain a positive and supportive space for everyone we serve!

We encourage volunteers to select toys that reflect the diverse cultures, interests, and backgrounds of the families we serve. This helps ensure that every child feels seen and represented in the gifts they receive.

We understand that choosing the perfect gift for adults can be challenging. That’s why we ask for gift cards for the women and men in our programs. This allows them the freedom to select a gift that suits their own interests and needs, giving them the agency to make choices for themselves.

Due to safety and confidentiality concerns, we are unable to facilitate meetings between donors and program participants. To ensure the privacy and protection of our families, your generous donations will be distributed directly to families by our staff

We kindly ask that all gifts remain unwrapped when donated. This allows us to ensure each child receives the most appropriate gift for them.
