Light the World this holiday season by visiting the Giving Machines at Tysons Corner, just outside the AMC Theaters, in McLean, Virginia.
For the second year, House of Ruth was selected to be featured in this international holiday tradition sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Giving Machines are charitable vending machines, offering a simple way for the community to give back. Instead of buying snacks or beverages like a typical vending machine, you tap your credit card to donate:
- A day of healthy meals at Kidspace, our child and family development center
- Music therapy for kids
- 1:1 no-cost counseling sessions for survivors of domestic violence
The Grand Unwrapping
On Saturday, November 23, the Grand Unwrapping of the Giving Machines brought together the community and local social impact leaders to launch the season. House of Ruth Assistant Program Coordinator Leona Willis spoke to the crowd about the impact of our work and the ongoing need for support.Following a special musical performance by Dallyn Vail Bayles, Santa Claus rallied children together to unwrap the machines—officially launching them for the holiday season.
A Unique Way to Give Back
The Giving Machines operate just like any other vending machine, but with one key twist: instead of buying a snack or drink, you donate needed supplies, services, and resources to nonprofits.
This holiday season, you can choose from options like donating diapers, meals, art therapy and more to directly benefit the women, children, and families served by House of Ruth.

Each donation, no matter the size, represents an opportunity to provide crucial support to those in need, helping House of Ruth extend services that promote safety, stability, and hope.
House of Ruth is one of five local charities highlighted this year, alongside other impactful organizations including REACT DC, Willing Warriors, and the Young Doctors Project.
Visiting the Giving Machines
The Giving Machines will remain at Tysons Corner Center through January 2, 2025, giving everyone ample time to make a difference. Located right outside AMC Theatres, the machines are easily accessible for those visiting Tysons Corner for holiday shopping.
