You’ve made one of the bravest decisions of your life. Leave an abusive relationship. Seek help to exit houselessness. You start anew, perhaps with children, and only the clothes on your back.
For House of Ruth program participants, their journey begins with that courageous act and starting over—with little to nothing. House of Ruth’s housing programs provide more than just a roof over their heads.
Because of your support, we offer fully furnished apartments—from furniture to linens—to support survivors rebuild their lives.
Survivors like Jennifer…
“When I opened the door to my new apartment, I was overwhelmed with tears of joy. It wasn’t just a place to stay; it was a home. The cozy bed, the new linens, and the little decorative touches made all the difference. I felt safe for the first time in a long time. I was able to focus on my goals. Within one week of acceptance [in the program], I was granted a new full-time employment opportunity that increased my income.”
In over 150 apartments across all D.C. wards, every House of Ruth program participant has a similar experience entering their apartment for the first time. As participants progress through the program and eventually graduate to independent living, we refresh each unit for the next resident, ensuring that everyone who comes to us has the same welcoming experience.
You play a vital role in creating the safe and welcoming homes for every woman and family we support. When you donate items from our housing wish list, you provide the foundation toward healing and independence.
