What happens when the people who should make you feel safe are the very people causing you harm?
Years of family and intimate partner abuse marked by physical, emotional, and financial harm left Marissa struggling with the trauma. At 39 years old, she was ready to begin healing and take control of her life, not only for herself, but also for her child.
Because of your support, she found that opportunity at one of House of Ruth’s twelve housing programs.
At House of Ruth, we recognize that no two survivors follow the same path to healing and independence. Our services are tailored to each person’s unique needs and goals. For Marissa, that meant:
- Safe, service-enriched housing for herself and her child.
- One-on-one case management support to establish goals and navigate challenges.
- Trauma-informed counseling through our Domestic Violence Support Center to support her healing.
- Career and financial guidance to work toward independence.
Marissa had long been interested in a career in IT security but needed the qualifications to take the next step. With guidance and support from House of Ruth, she obtained the necessary certifications and professional credentials, qualifying her to interview for a higher-paying position.
Her hard work paid off. Marissa recently secured a federal IT security position earning over $40 an hour, bringing her closer to financial independence.
Today, she’s working toward her next goal: securing her first apartment—a place she can call home.
This is the difference you make. Because of your generosity, survivors like Marissa access all House of Ruth services at no cost. Your kindness ensure that they have access to the programs survivors need and deserve to health and rebuild.
